Chopstix & Rice Serves Its Last Meal At Suntec City On 4 October
Chopstix & Rice will close its Suntec City outlet on 4 October 2026, ending a run that began when the Indonesian nasi padang specialist relocated from Orchard Towers to the mall. The restaurant announced the closure via its social channels, calling it "the goodbye we never wanted to write" and confirming that the final day of service is 4 October, with daily hours from 5pm to 9pm through the closing stretch.
The closure removes one of Suntec City's most distinctive Indonesian dining options. Chopstix & Rice, which traces its roots back to 2002 and Madam Loij's Padang-style cooking, built a reputation as one of Singapore's top nasi padang stalls, serving over a million plates across its history. The Suntec City outlet had been its flagship since the relocation, pairing a weekday Nasi Padang service (11am to 3pm, Monday to Friday) with a daily dinner menu from 5pm to 8pm.
What regulars lose on 4 October
The signatures are the reason this closure stings. Beef Rendang, the slow-cooked dry curry beef that is the backbone of any Padang kitchen, is the order most cited by regulars. Ayam Masak Merah, the red chilli chicken, and Sayur Lodeh, the coconut milk vegetable stew, round out the trinity. Madam Loij's chili padis, the house sambal, is the condiment that ties everything together and the one thing you cannot easily replicate at home.
The Suntec outlet had also been running a limited-time Indonesian buffet featuring signatures including beef rendang, sayur lodeh, ayam balado and eggplant balado, which gave diners a way to sample across the menu without committing to a single plate. Whether the buffet continues through the closing window or ends earlier has not been confirmed, but if you have been meaning to try it, the window is now weeks rather than months.
The Suntec dining shuffle continues
The Chopstix & Rice closure follows the July 2026 shuttering of Crystal Jade Hong Kong Kitchen at Suntec City, which makes two notable tenant farewells at the mall within a three-month window. Suntec City's dining roster remains deep, but the departures narrow the range of regional cuisines on offer, particularly Indonesian, which has fewer dedicated outlets in the Marina Centre area than Cantonese or Japanese.
For now, the Suntec City outlet is still open and serving. The closing announcement did not confirm whether Chopstix & Rice will reopen elsewhere; the brand has a catering arm that continues to operate via chopstixandrice.com.sg, and the chain previously relocated from Orchard Towers to Suntec, so another move is not out of the question. Until 4 October, the Suntec outlet is the place for the full plate experience.
